Ofsted downed school and ‘bullying reported’

Tewkesbury School is a secondary school for students aged 11 to 18.

About 1,300 students attend the non-selective school. It was downgraded from “good” to “requires improvement” by Ofsted at its last inspection in October.

Inspectors said some students with special needs were not receiving the support they needed, while students struggling to read were not receiving targeted support at the right time.

An Ofsted report found that some pupils “perpetuated their bad behavior and hindered the learning of others”. Students reported bullying at the school.

Local schools are closed.

Teachers at nearby Thirlebrook Primary School posted a message on Facebook that the school had been closed on police advice and that parents should not come to the school.

“There was an incident at Tewkesbury Academy this morning and we have been advised by Tewkesbury Police to put a lockdown in place,” he said.

“We have police at the school and are being fully supported at this time. We would like to reassure all families that the children at Tirlebrook and Little Oaks are safe and sound.

“We have to ask families not to come to school during this time because this will affect the work of the police and endanger the safety of the children.

“In this situation, all school staff will support the children and contact the police, so we ask that you do not try to contact the school office.

“We thank you all for your support and will let you know as soon as we know more.”
