Police are investigating a Monroe homicide after a teenager was shot and killed at a hotel Saturday night.

The attack was an isolated incident and officials said there was no danger to the public.
Residents told Channel 9’s veteran crime reporter that the area has seen its fair share of trouble, but Saturday night’s killing was unexpected and spoke to the community.
Kimberly Ocasio, a resident of the Red Roof Inn, said she and her family thought the shootings were fireworks.
“We actually saw some people walking around here as regular family guests for the 4th of July, so we thought they were setting off fireworks, and all of a sudden I saw an ambulance, and it wasn’t fireworks. This was a shooting,” Ocasio said.
Ocasio and her family lived at the Red Roof Inn for a year, and she didn’t realize how many young children were able to get a room.
“I saw the people who were there, so I don’t know how these kids got here. They’re all juveniles, so I don’t understand how they got into the classroom,” Ocasio said.
Counters spoke with motel management, who stated that residents were not allowed to bring guests and that the addition was against motel policy.
Another resident, Anne Marsh, had only lived in the motel for a few months. She tells Cans that it’s the first time something like this has happened since she’s been there and it’s giving her second thoughts about staying.
“This is the first time something has happened since I came here. It’s kind of scary.”
Police said the suspects in Delts’s life are not being identified because they are juveniles.
The department did not provide any information about the reason for the shooting.
